CDSS gives you three attempts at the state exam. If you don't pass on the third, the law requires you to retake an 80-hour course before you're allowed to test again. We'll teach it to you again at no cost. No time limit, no expiration, no window to miss.

Who needs this certification

California requires an RCFE Administrator Certificate for two very different people. This course is the same first step for both.

Already a licensed Nursing Home Administrator? You are exempt from this course and from the state exam — the 12-hour NHA to RCFE bridge is your route instead.

Path one

You want to open your own assisted living facility

Every licensed RCFE in California must have a certified administrator. If you're opening your own facility, that person can be you, or you can hire a certified administrator.

Opening a facility? We also prepare your entire RCFE application and mail it to you, ready to sign and send.

Path two

You want to be hired as an administrator or executive director

Existing facilities can only hire a certified administrator, so the certificate is what makes you eligible for the role, and it is often what separates two otherwise equal candidates. Many students take this course before they have the job lined up.
